Regional Referee Certification Requirements

Important dates:

July 1 – June 30 – Registration Year
January 1 – December 31 – Badge Year

Upgrading to Regional Referee:

  • Minimum Game Count: 25 games as a Referee and 15 games as an Assistant Referee at the Adult Amateur Level
  • Minimum 2 years as a (formerly Grassroots) Referee
  • Minimum of 3 passing assessments as a Referee (completed between January 1 and December 31)
    • 2 at the Adult Amateur Level
    • 1 at the youth level (U18 or U19)
  • Pass the Fitness Test (completed between January 1 and December 31)
  • Current SafeSport Training License
  • Current Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environment (“Intro to Safety”) License
  • Current background screening
  • Must have attended the current two-day Regional Referee Upgrade Clinic and completed associated online lessons.

 

Recertifying as a Regional Referee:

  • Must have held at least one Regional Referee license in the previous 3 years or held a National Referee (or Assistant Referee) license during refereeing career
  • Minimum of 2 passing evaluations as a Referee (completed between January 1 and December 31)
    • 1 at the Adult Amateur Level
    • 1 at the highest youth level (U18 or U19)
  • Pass Fitness Test (completed between January 1 and December 31)
  • Current SafeSport Training License
  • Current Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environment (“Intro to Safety”) License
  • Current background screening
  • Attend the In-Person Regional Referee Clinic and complete all associated online lessons
